A Yankee Candle Haul

A few weeks ago I got an urge to buy candles. Personally I blame my Mum, as she is a fellow candle obsessive so I’m convinced she passed it on to me!

In Basingstoke we have a Yankee Candle concession stand, where they sell all manner of Yankee paraphenalia, including the tarts, votives, jars and much more. And I have to walk past it to go pretty much anywhere!

So I decided to pick up a few tarts and a little friend to help me burn them!

Tarts are a great way of discovering new scents and at around £1.25 each, you can sample a variety of ‘flavours’ without feeling you’ve wasted money. This time I chose ‘Mango Peach Salsa’, ‘November Rain’ (should probably be burning this one as we speak, it’s torrential out there!), ‘Summer Scoop’, ‘Salted Caramel’ (one from my wishlist!) and finally ‘Home Sweet Home’.

I spent about half an hour sniffing various tarts trying to figure out which ones to go for, so my apologies to my boyfriend who had to sit there whilst I said things like ‘What the heck does Cherries on Snow smell like?!’

Despite having a plethora of oil and tart burners at home courtesy of my Mum, I decided to pick up this little guy as he was just too cute to leave behind!

Now here is where I had a little problem. Having bought 5 tarts and my new friend from the sales assistant at the stand, she neglected to tell me that Mr Twittwowoo would not fit the tarts I had just bought as he is in fact an oil burner and not a tart burner. So having got home, lit the candle inside and left Mango Peach Salsa to melt, I found my owl ended up with a runny nose (ie overflowing tart down his face!)

The key here is to break the tarts in half and use half at a time, slight messy (make sure you do the breaking over the bin) and store the remaining half in a plastic bag. But despite my little problem, I do in fact adore this little guy and whilst I’m still burning Mango Peach Salsa now (these things last for ages!) I’m looking forward to trying out a new tart very soon!

Do you like Yankee Candles? What are your favourite scents?

I'm always passing that Yankee stand in Basingstoke too, so tempting although I've never bought a Yankee Candle before! I'd love to smell November Rain that sounds really interesting.

I am a big fan of Yankee Candles! I currently have the Sweet Strawberry candle, but its running out. I'm planning on buying the Salted Caramel one next, I think it'll be lovely for Winter.

I bought my first tart a few months ago but didn't realise that it wasn't a candle – so I had the torture of this divine smelling (vanilla) tart but with no way of releasing the scent! I still need to get my hands on a tart burner!

Intrigued as to what November Rain smells like, but seems very fitting for the weather we've got in London!

Oh no! You can find oil burners pretty much everywhere these days but if the tart doesn't fit into the top dip when whole and wrapped don't try and burn it like that because you'll end up with wax everywhere! The Yankee website have a few tart burners otherwise.

November Rain is very apt for the weather today! Smell wise it's sort of more manly than the others (if that makes sense!), slightly like an aftershave but not that powerful. Sorry if that makes no sense! xx

I currently own a Cranberry Ice one, but I'm definitely tempted by Home Sweet Home 🙂

Very sensible to get the smaller tarts to see what you like – I jsut go straight in for the biggest candle! I think my favourite at the moment is Honey and Spice – it's so good! x

Me too until recently! I found I was running out of space to store the big jars, so I'm paring back! It's hard! Haha! I'll give Honey & Spice a sniff next time I'm in town! x
