Baby Shower

One of my friends is having a baby boy (actually, by the time this goes out, I’m hoping she’s had him!)

A mutual friend of ours (Lora) very kindly organised a baby shower, and as our friends’ sister is also pregnant (with a girl! One of each!) we had a joint party for both the Mum’s-to-be.

As Lora had decided on a Cream Tea theme, I offered to bake a cake for the occasion. As I knew this baby shower was coming, I had already chosen some baby boy themed decorations from The Craft Company as they had very kindly allowed me to choose what I would like from their website.

I decided to make a simple Victoria sponge with an apricot jam and vanilla buttercream filling. I decorated it with ivory fondant and the sugar decorations, finishing with a gold ribbon. I added a handmade baby bottle in the centre, modelled on the one from the sugar decorations.

For my present for Mum and baby I had been putting together a little hamper for a while. Adding to it when I saw bits I liked or thought Mum might like to keep her feeling ‘normal’ when she’s heading to the hospital!
I started with a little hamper basket from Home Sense. I wanted a fabric hamper as I thought she would be able to use this for nappies or other bits and bobs once the baby comes. I chose blue as we know she’s having a boy!

So what did I put in the hamper?

Sarah from Crafty Sheep very kindly sent me a jar candle in Baby Powder. It was divine, and it smelt just like a baby covered in baby powder!

I picked up these cute little booties when I was in Qatar, I couldn’t resist!

On another trip to Home Sense I found this adorable frog set. It has booties, a hat and baby vest. I just found the idea of dressing the baby as a frog so so cute, and I knew Mum-to-be would agree with me!

Look at these booties!!

I can’t wait to see the little one in this outfit!

I also added some sleepsuits to the hamper as they are always useful. I got these in slightly larger than newborn as I figured everyone would be giving him newborn clothes and then she would have nothing to put him in later! I love the little characters on these.

I also added a few bits for the Mum-to-be to the hamper. Some Batiste dry shampoo (she’s not going to have a lot of time to wash her hair in the coming weeks!); some glittery earrings from Glitzy Glam to keep her feeling fabulous; a nail file and a magazine.

The little one shouldn’t be long now and I for one, cannot wait to meet him!
